Hello all, and Happy February! I wanted to pop on and share these printable Valentine’s placemats that I made for my kids. I’ve attached a pink and blue version of the printable placemat as a PDF link below. If anyone else has a special little one in their life who appreciates cheery Valentine’s table decor (or if your table needs protecting from said little people) feel free to download it and have it printed and laminated at your local printing store. I took mine to our local UPS store, and it cost about $5 per placemat to have it printed and laminated.
There are two versions of the placemat available for download – one in blue and one in pink. I also made a purple version for The Dot (as I mentioned in her bedroom makeover post she is obsessed with purple), but I think the blue and pink versions are perfect for Valentine’s.
Each placemat has a heart-rimmed spot for a kid-size plate as well as dotted lines to show the kids where to place their cutlery and napkin. When we gave them to our kids, they immediately ran over to the silverware drawer and grabbed a fork, knife, and spoon to put in the right spots. An easy way to teach your child how to set the table!
Printing instructions
The placemat is 11 x 17, which is the maximum size most printing shops can print without having to send it out for special printing. In addition to the UPS Store, Office Depot and Office Max have similar printing options and prices. As I mentioned, my cost to have each placemat printed and laminated was around $5.
You’ll want to have the document printed in color on 11 x 17 cardstock paper and then laminated. The printer at our local store was acting up when we tried printing on cardstock, so we went ahead and printed ours out on regular paper. The regular paper version has held up fine, but it can bend and crease even though it’s laminated. Printing it on cardstock would make the durability similar to the laminated placemats you buy commercially and scrub in the sink. I wipe ours off with a wet dish rag to clean them.
Other Placemats
There are a lot of placemats online that are great educational resources and that help spark conversation with your children over meal times. They also make great gifts. We have the maps from this set (Amazon link here):
At breakfast the kids are constantly asking questions about states and the different countries on the map. They are already pretty good at identifying locations on the map.
We also have this ABC placemat from Melissa and Doug (Amazon link here):
I don’t recommend using the writing crayons that come with the Melissa and Doug placemats because they are difficult to wipe off.

Those turned out so adorable. I saw you creating them on the computer, but had no idea they would be that cute (although, I should know better than to doubt anything you create).
Love,
Your favorite mother-in-law
