Tennis and my thoughts on toddler screen time

Tennis and my thoughts on toddler screen time

Mr. L and I always try to play tennis at least once a week. I'm terrible at it (but improving), and Mr. L is very good because he's naturally athletic and played a lot of tennis in high school. I'm athletic too, but hand-eye coordination is not my strong suit. I rowed in college, and it was more of a continuous motion thing. No balls to chase. Back to tennis. While some people may consider their tennis racket and balls to be the most important equipment, I disagree. This is the most important ... continue reading...

A low-maintenance fall container garden for the patio

A low-maintenance fall container garden for the patio

One of my goals for 2018 is to improve the look of our outdoor patio area. Two years ago, we got the ball rolling by purchasing a wood patio set from World Market. While it's not exactly high-end furniture, the cushioned chairs and loveseat have been a nice upgrade from the two fold-out chairs that previously graced our patio. This year, I focused on getting our outdoor landscaping and garden beds in order so that we have something nice to look at when we sit on our lovely outdoor furniture. ... continue reading...

Our week in five

Our week in five

// ONE // Well it actually felt like fall this week. Texas-style Fall, at least. By my definition, that means that the temperature stayed under 90 for most of the days, and it got down to the 70s (and lower) at night. It's my favorite time of the year. We took advantage of the nice weather and spent as much time outside as possible. Lamborghini had a blast carving pumpkins. He's a bit timid about putting his hand in the "pumpkin goo," as we call it. But he did a great job getting most of the ... continue reading...

Simple and Healthy Turkey Picadillo Recipe

Simple and Healthy Turkey Picadillo Recipe

Pardon my repeat on this recipe, but as I'm new to the blogging world, I'm operating on a learning curve. I originally posted this turkey picadillo recipe in this "Our Week in Five" post. While I say "posted," the appropriate word is really "hid" because I make this recipe monthly and cannot find it on my own website! So this repost is really for my own benefit. But in case you missed the turkey picadillo recipe the first time around, this is really one that you should try. The ingredients ... continue reading...

Happy Halloween Entryway

Happy Halloween Entryway

Happy October! I wanted to pop in for a bit and share my Halloween entryway decor. I must admit that these decorations went up in September even though I am usually a stickler for waiting until October to decorate. But all of the big-box stores put out their Christmas items a few weeks ago and took away a lot of the Halloween items, so I felt the need to jump on the Halloween boat early to fill the orange and black void. I went super simple this year and only decorated my entryway. I may put ... continue reading...

About me

Hi! I'm Lauren. Welcome to my blog, where I write about DIY projects, home decor, and decorating on a budget. With 3 kids under the age of 5, my house not always as neat in real life as it looks on the blog, but I find a way to embrace (and organize) the chaos.
