If you haven’t noticed by now, I love Valentine’s Day. While that hasn’t always been the case during my adult life, having kids has really made me appreciate how even a small effort goes a long way. It is so fun making the holiday special for them with treats, decorations, and lots of hugs and kisses. The kids aren’t in school right now, so they won’t be exchanging Valentine’s cards in a traditional sense. But we still wanted to spread the love. So we had a little Valentine’s card decorating party with just the three of us while the baby napped.
The setup for the “party” was extremely easy. I made a special table arrangement for the kids on their small craft table. I had some leftover red wrapping paper from Christmas that I folded into thirds and used as a runner for the table. Then I added store-bought sugar cookies on a heart plate along with red and white candy.
The drink is juice in mason jars with colorful paper straws. The kids don’t get a free-for-all spread of confections that often, so this was really exciting for them.
In addition the party food, I also spread our Valentine’s sticker collection on the table for decor and to encourage the next project after the sugar treats. I purchased the red cards (similar here on Amazon) and stickers from Hobby Lobby.
The kids had a lot of fun with this activity and expended some of their sugar high by decorating the Valentine’s cards.
Then I sent them outside to run off the rest of their energy. They were out there for almost three hours! Of course the weather here in Texas has been great lately, so consider the amount of sugar you provide if the kids will likely be indoors.
Lamborghini is still working on his reading and writing, so I usually have him sign his name along with The Dot, who loves this sort of thing.
Next year I will probably have him write more inside the card, but I didn’t want to burn him out. It’s hard enough to get him to craft. Haha. In each Valentine’s card, I included a photo of the kids that I took of them in their Valentine’s outfits.
Then the kids helped me put the cards in envelopes, and we finished off each letter with these adorable stamps from the post office.
Super easy, but tons of fun!
Before I sign off, I wanted to share this darling Valentine’s card from my grandfather to my grandmother. I love the look of the vintage cards. And the handwritten note inside: “May we always be the Valentines that they said we were.”
Oh to be in love in the 1940s. Of course I say that, but I think I would miss my internet! Lol!
