Rising Star pico de gallo recipe

Rising Star pico de gallo recipe

I wrote about our trip to my uncle and aunt's property earlier this week and briefly mentioned one of my favorite foods ever—pico de gallo. Mr. L suggested I explain what it is and share the recipe. Then it occurred to me that I started a whole blog post on pico de gallo in 2016 before I took a pregnancy hiatus. You can tell from most of the photos that I definitely had no idea how to use my camera (hello ultra-violet tomatoes), but the recipe is still good. Indeed, I made pico and my roasted ... continue reading...

How to make a wearable cardboard airplane for kids

How to make a wearable cardboard airplane for kids

Happy Halloween everyone! We are geared up and getting ready to go trick or treating with Bammie and PopPop, rain or shine (though I think it will rain—waah!). I mentioned in my post earlier this week that Lamborghini is dressing up as a fighter pilot this year. The Dot is going as a pilot too, except she will be wearing a green bomber jacket and hot pink leggings. And speaking of gearing up, the airplanes are ready!!!! I found a lot of inspiration on Pinterest for making cardboard ... continue reading...

Our week in five

// ONE // This week was a bit different for us because we started it out by visiting my uncle and aunt at their property in West Texas. The drive is normally about four and a half hours—for regular people, that is. With a three-year-old and a one-year-old, it took us seven hours. Sigh. But the reward was worth the long drive because we always have such a wonderful time out there. The kids love it because they can touch and play with all sorts of farming equipment like tractors and a backhoe. ... continue reading...

How I simplified my life by organizing my kitchen pantry

How I simplified my life by organizing my kitchen pantry

Right before The Dot was born, I went through a phase of what I like to call "micro-nesting." I had already nested when I was pregnant with Lamborghini, so rooms were painted, nurseries were stocked, and the freezer was full. Micro-nesting was nesting at a whole different level. It was all precipitated by my purchasing and reading the book "The Life-changing Magic of Tidying Up," which was really big several years ago. If you enjoyed Netflix's Tidying Up with Marie Kondo, definitely check out ... continue reading...

Our week in five

// ONE // "Rain rain go away." That's the song we were singing this week. An unusually frigid cold front hit us on Monday and brought tons of rain with it. Luckily, we didn't get severe flooding like other parts of Texas, but the rain combined with the cold weather made me want to stay indoors. Me. Only me. Somehow the kids didn't get the memo. Indeed, I think all children in the world get together on rain days and conspire to act like rabid animals until we break down and let them outside. ... continue reading...

About me

Hi! I'm Lauren. Welcome to my blog, where I write about DIY projects, home decor, and decorating on a budget. With 3 kids under the age of 5, my house not always as neat in real life as it looks on the blog, but I find a way to embrace (and organize) the chaos.
